Anita grew up in a small suburb of Heredia Costa Rica, Santa Lucia, a humble town in central Costa Rica where enjoying a cup of coffee with family and friends is a way of life. Anita's love for coffee and gratitude for life stated at a young age. Her mother, aunt and grandmother were all loved in their community and were embraced as the defacto mothers to all.
Anita attended elementary school in a 100+ year old adobe dwelling, which was once the home of the President of Costa Rica. He lovingly donated his home to the community of Santa Lucia, which was in need of a place to educate the local children. This special location had an everlasting influence on Anita's love for coffee. The school was perched on a hillside surrounded by a coffee plantation. After school, Anita worked in the coffee field and learned the art of selecting the finest beans "grano de oro" and the old age techniques of extracting the coffee beans from the fruit, roasting and brewing. The school is now a cultural museum representing the "Tico" way of life.
